Please help Jen find a living kidney donor!! Jen is an amazing human being who is so deserving of finding a kidney match. Jen is a loyal daughter, sister, family member, friend & colleague. Jen was diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease (PKD) which is a hereditary disease causing many fluid-filled sacs (cysts) to develop and grow in your kidneys--causing ones' kidneys to eventually stop working. It also causes high blood pressure, abdomen pain, headaches and kidney infections. Although PKD has been an unfortunate part of Jen's life it has not stopped her from doing the things she is passionate about. She is such a dedicated law enforcement officer.. currently a detective in her hometown. Even with the trials and tribulations of PKD, she proudly serves her town and gives 100% to the job ... very rarely missing a day on the job. She is also very passionate about animal cruelty and neglect. She has spent much of her life working with the Cat Projects across the state and working with animal rescue organizations, supporting all community members, including LGBT, and working closely with The Special Olympics.
After spending nearly two decades in law enforcement committed to advocating for the elderly, children, and those less fortunate, Jen now finds herself dependent on the kindness of others. So after living with PKD so long, her kidneys no longer work which leads her to needing a donor. Unfortunately her siblings and some other family members have graciously tested for her, but were not suitable matches.
Living with PKD has been tough at times. However, Jen has been so proactive in keeping her kidneys as healthy as possible for as long as possible in order to manage the disease. Even with a well-balanced diet, staying physically active, and learning effective ways to manage pain... the days are getting more difficult for Jen. With her kidney function getting less and less, her shifts at work are getting to be taxing on her physical health. The things she once loved (animal rescue, hiking, traveling, spending time with family and friends, volunteering, etc) are being jeopardized. A Living kidney donation would help her return to living a healthier life. It would bring back energy to her life and she could start traveling, and enjoy time with family and friends again.
After finding out 4 months ago that she is now in critical end stage kidney failure, she is humbly asking for assistance in finding a living donor. Jen is not the kind of person who likes to inconvenience others, so her family and friends are writing on her behalf! Jen is on the kidney transplant list and part of the local kidney swap program through Yale Transplant Center but they estimate it will take years, so the most viable path is the National Kidney Swap Program—or the best option, a transplant with a Living Donor match.
Please consider giving the precious gift of life if you can. Please keep in mind if you donate this gift, life with one kidney is very similar to life with two kidneys (happy & normal).
If you decide to help Jen, you will get your own independent medical team and coordinators who will advise and protect you throughout the entire process. And her insurance picks up the costs of the evaluation and, if compatible, the surgery.
Again..... thank you for even taking the time to read her story! If you know Jen like we do... you know she is very deserving of a donor!
