Laurie Cavanaugh Needs A LIVING Kidney DONOR

It would mean the world to our family to find a kidney for my mom. Please read this, share it and become a champion yourself. We will get this done!

Laurie is my mother, not only is she that, but she is also one of my best friends and the backbone of our family.
We enjoy playing cards/games together, going for walks and just enjoy having life conversations with each other.
My mom has a lot of unbelievable qualities but I will just pick a few. The first would be her toughness, she is one of the toughest people that I know. The next would be her faith that she has. Lastly her loving heart, she always puts others first before her and that is a unbelievable quality that shows how big her heart is.

The things that I notice is lack of color and tiredness.
If you know my mom (Laurie) you would know that she doesn’t want to miss out on any activities. So if there is a way she can do it, she’s gonna do it.
A transplant would mean the world. I want my mom to be able to travel and live a normal life. A transplant would mean being able to be a grandparent down the road and impact my brother and I's (when we get there) kids in a positive way just like she did with us and everyone she comes in contact with.

We are in search of a kidney donor to help save my moms life. Please help and pass this along. This would mean the world to our family! We will get this done!

There are currently 120,000 people waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant in the U.S. Of these, 100,000 await kidney transplants.

The median wait time for a kidney transplant is 3-5 years and can vary depending on health, compatibility, and where you live.

In 2014, 17,107 kidney transplants took place in the U.S. Of these, 11,570 came from deceased donors and 5,537 came from living donors.

Every 14 minutes someone is added to the kidney transplant waitlist.

A kidney from a living donor lasts longer and begins functioning more quickly than a kidney from a deceased donor.

In 1995, kidney donation became minimally invasive with a procedure called laparoscopic nephrectomy, which only requires four small incisions. Hospital stay is typically only 3 days after this operation.

Not blood type compatible with your recipient to be a living donor? Kidney Paired Donation (the “kidney swap” program) enables incompatible candidates with a living donor to receive a kidney from a compatible donor.

Last year, over 700 living donor kidney transplants occurred using Kidney Paired Donation.
