I am Lenin Marmol. I have always been very passionate about learning hands on. And it makes sense now why I was able to land a job at ritz Carlton after working 10 years at Marriott with several departments. I also love Real Madrid they have inspired me to reach for the best and never give up. I have been on dialysis since March 27, 2019. It’s been 4 years of learning still, about kidney failure and now knowing that a transplant is a possibility. I wish one day to help inspire others about kidney failure and teach the possibilities not the impossibilities it can lead to as long as you don’t give up.
I was diagnosed with kidney failure on March 27, 2019. I’m total 4 years has past at this moment. At the dialysis center I have really grown a lot as a person I feel. To understand and share the same disease as everyone in the center. I actually do enjoy going to the center 3 times a week so see my friends I have made now. My nurses are great, I play music for them all the time. We even watched the World Cup together when I had treatment. I have no bad words to say about dialysis, I’ve accepted it as a friend as well. I know what the pros are about the treatment and the consequences of not going to dialysis without a transplant. Kidney failure was definitely hard for the first year. But I will thank my physical therapist that helped me get back on my feet to recovery and now treat it like a friend I see 3 times a week. I am able to swim again, I can go grocery shopping for myself. I know what my renal lifestyle diet requires and what it doesn’t. I am able to attend live sports games like everyone else. All those normal activities I missed out on when I was intubated at Yale seemed like just a faded dream back in ICU. Now they have become a reality. I am forever in dept with team Yale and my family bond that didn’t give up on me. I ultimately now understand it wasn’t a diet I had to go on it was a complete lifestyle change. And I love my second chance at life. Everything feels brand new again. That’s something special and close to my heart.
A transplant would mean an outstanding opportunity to help contribute back to the dialysis community. I would love to help inspire others going through it. Help them to never give up and always see the glass half full not half empty. I would love to go back to my old job at the Ritz Carlton. I would even love to go see my old rehab centers and talk to those in need of a kidney. Everyone that helped me along my journey would be pleased to see me back with a kidney. Ultimately that would be my greatest gift to give back to them. A smile on their faces after all the long days in ICU. Inspiration has to be taught hands on. And to give someone a new life is true power.
Ay the end of the day I have learned a lot about myself and about what really matters in life now. When you’re young you are able to make mistakes and recover as long as you recognize your mistakes. Now after 40 years old you should start to buckle down and appreciate most of all YOUR HEALTH. Your health is your real wealth. Kidney failure can happen to anyone at any time regardless of your social status and economic situation. Together if we all took more appreciation of our kidneys we could help other who need a kidney by becoming and organ donor. Many times the greatest stories never told are right in front of us but we just need to reach out to others and hold them in our arms and feel their disease. Sharing is caring right, let’s all share a kidney and be an inspiration.
