LIVING Liver DONOR NEEDED

I love to watch the sun coming up. ✨

Hello my name is Eileen Woodley

I love starting my day on a positive 🎶 by taking a walk along the shore to watch the sun come up. I’m adventurous, traveling, exploring new places, swimming, enjoying nature are some of my other favorites.

One morning as I was getting ready to head out the door for my morning walk, I simply missed one step. I wasn’t in any pain, I simply couldn’t get up. The next thing I know, I’m in an ambulance. When I woke up from surgery, I was told I broke my right hip, all from missing just one step.

It was about 6 or so, weeks later I was discharged to a rehab center. I had not left a hospital bed since my surgery.

The first time they tried to get me out of bed, I was dropped. An X-ray, confirmed a pin can loose, however, it was never removed.

Now released from the rehab center, I stayed with my parents. That’s when I started in-home therapy. My therapist noticed I was walk in a toe-touch position. That’s when I was told I needed orthotics.

In- home therapy ended, now I started out-patient therapy. I developed blood clots, still the pin was loose inside me. Several months later, I was still not able to walk on my own, even with my orthotic. It wasn’t from lack of trying.

Every time I met with my surgeon, he never mentioned the pin. Finally I asked him, what is going on? That’s when he suggested having surgery again. Before I agreed to undergo surgery, I got a second option. When I met the surgeon from HSS, I was told, I needed surgery immediately. That’s when I found out why I couldn’t walk.

While I was being monitored for my blood clots, they discovered I had liver disease. I couldn’t understand what caused this. Always living a healthy lifestyle, by eating a healthy diet juicing, exercising daily, swimming, and never abusing alcohol, and of course, walking. In fact, after not being able to walk without needing an orthotic, walking has become my passion. All the things that prevent liver failure!

It was 5 years later, I was walking again without where orthotics. I was feeling fine. It was around Thanksgiving, my stomach began to swell, then my legs & feet. My feet got so swollen, I could only wear socks into the ER.

The gastrologist took a MRI, it confirmed I had a tumor in my liver that was cancerous. It took several months of chemotherapy to finally be accepted to be evaluated for the Yale Transplant Program. I was so honored I was accepted. Now my life is a waiting game.

One act of Kindness changed my life, see what it could do for you. Give A Gift of Life. Become a live"R" of Life.

Finding my own living liver donor would give me the opportunity to had my transplant surgery immediately. It also frees up a liver for a patient on the waiting list, who does not have that option.

Financial burdens shouldn’t prevent the gift of life. The National Living Donor Assistance Center ( NLDAC ) can offer financial support for living donor travel expenses.
