Edward Fazekas Needs A LIVING Liver DONOR

I met Edward in 2017 and we quickly fell in love we love going to Niagara falls n.y where we often go about every other month and. I visit Connecticut also and an upcoming vacation were planning

I would first like to also thank you all very much for taking time to read Edward's story. Especially that you've taken the Xtra time to read mine,and the others that are championing for Edward to be granted the priceless gift of a liver donor.sharing this with your friends and family will really help to get the word out to potential donors so please pass this on to as many contacts as possible. Edward's condition is very serious.he often gets told ,"but you don't look sick,you look great" (don't let his handsome looks fool you).he is in the last stage of liver failure and will need this liver transplant to survive.he has been in and out of the hospital,had cancer liver surgery had his stomach drained of fluids with huge needles,battled a chronic infection,not to mention all his other procedures and un-ending Dr.appointments.

Edward is the kindest and most compassionate person I know,and very deserving at a second chance for a new life,as we eventually want to be married and begin are lives together in toronto.i love this man more than any words can express and don't know what I would do without this loving manin my life.he is loved by so many people,there are his friends and family of course,and us here in Toronto that love him and pray for him always. This love and support will be the driving force thatsees Edward through this journey,not to mention his own personal drive and motivation to push through any obstacles.he has amazed me with his self-control and being able to just stop all his bad habits 'cold turkey 'and without complaints despite the toll it took on him.i am always inspired by the strength of character Edward demonstrates and I wish I could be more like him.in fact I wish more people could be more like him.

Share the Importance of Living Donation

Liver transplantation has been a successful treatment and standard of care for end-stage liver disease since the early 1980s.

Technical advancements in liver surgery, as well as the liver's tremendous ability to regenerate, have made living donor liver transplantation a life-saving reality.

There are currently 120,000 people waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant in the U.S. Of these, 15,000 await liver transplants.

Although more than 6,000 liver transplants were performed last year, over 1,700 patients died while waiting on the list.

Deceased donor livers are allocated to patients based on how sick they are, determined by their MELD score, where sicker patients receive priority.

Living donation offers patients the option of transplant before they get very sick--regardless of MELD score--significantly decreasing the time they wait for a liver.

Living donation not only saves the life of the recipient; it also frees up a liver for a patient on the waiting list who does not have that option.

The Model for End-Stage Liver Disease (MELD) and Pediatric End-Stage Liver Disease (PELD) are numerical, objective scales that allocate available livers to the sickest patients. Patients move up the list as their scores increase.

The first living donor liver transplant took place in 1988. Since then, living donors have continued giving the gift of life and making a difference.

When a recipient has a living donor, the wait time for transplant is shorter and the transplant can be scheduled in advanced when the recipient is in good health and when it is convenient for both the donor and the recipient.

Financial burdens shouldn’t prevent the gift of life. The National Living Donor Assistance Center (NLDAC) can offer financial support for living donor travel expenses.
