My name is Marc Rangel, 31. An Artist from Houston Tx. 11 years ago I was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease while serving in the U.S Army stationed in South Korea. I was 2 months shy from my 21st birthday.
My life hadn't been the same since, I had to adjust to living with my disease. Learning to accept was the hardest part. Mentally I had to be strong & physically over the years I could feel the toll it was taking on my body. I went through phases of weakness, nausea, loss of appetite and many other things. My body would swell & my body felt exhausted. My heart was over working causing me to have high blood pressure. Both kidneys were slowly failing and eventually would have stop working completely. I was at End Stage Renal Failure at 10% kidney function. A kidney transplant would mean another chance at life for me. The disease was progressing and I was getting dialysis treatments nighlty. Dialysis itself is something I am honestly grateful for but not necessarily something I enjoyed. I had a PD catheter inside of my abdominal cavity through which I received the Dialysis Solution. Dialysis helped my body clean out toxins that my kidneys can no longer do. I was on Dialysis for almost 2 years. It wasn't the most comfortable thing being hooked up to a machine every night. It had it's challenges and I definitely had to make huge adjustments to my life.
I was blessed to recive a successful kidney transplant May 2023. After being on the waitlist for about 4 years. My transplant has really improved my quality of life. It has made me feel healthy once more and givin me my freedom back. I am so grateful for this opportunity and the feeling of getting my life back. God blessed me with the miracle of life.
Thank you to everyone who had shared my story. Much love!
