My name is James Bryant, and I have Stage 5 Chronic Kidney Disease. In 2016, I fainted at home and ended up in the hospital. It was during this time I found out about my condition. I love spending time with my wife and our 3 children. I'm a huge sports fan. I love the Lakers and I'm also a huge softball fan. I used to spend most of my summer evenings, watching my local softball league play at the park.
Having kidney failure has been really hard mentally. I worry about what it means for my family and loved ones. The thought of not being around to watch my kids have their own families weigh heavy on my mind. I'm on a lot of medication, each of which has its own side effects. Most days I struggle to sleep, different parts of my body swell, and I barely have energy to get out of bed.
This disease has shown me how important it is to value the life you have. Knowing what I know now, I would live a healthier and more active lifestyle. A kidney donation, for me, would mean more time with my family. It would be a second chance in a lot of ways. It would allow me to travel and get back into the things I love to do. I also hope that I can be an advocate for others suffering from this disease as well.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story. I appreciate anyone reading or sharing my story with others. I know it's not an easy decision to become a donor, but I hope that it is one that you will consider.
