My name is Tyra Scott-Gibbs, and I am hoping to find a kidney donor. I have been dealing with chronic kidney disease for the last 30 years.
My journey started when I was pregnant with my son, he was born 2lbs. 2oz., now a healthy 30-year-old. I was doing in-center hemodialysis from 1995 to 2001. In 2001, I received a kidney transplant from a cadaver kidney. My kidney transplant lasted for 15 years! In 2016 my kidney started rejecting and I ultimately had to resume dialysis. In 2017, I started peritoneal dialysis and was placed on the waitlist for a kidney transplant. In 2022, I experienced a colon blockage and had to do in-center hemodialysis. In October 2023, I switched to home hemodialysis. I have been unable to work since 2018. Although, this treatment modality has given me more energy than prior treatments, it still often leaves me feeling tired and makes it difficult to do the things I enjoy like traveling and visiting family and friends. The effects and treatments required to combat it have been a constant stress on my mind, body, and soul.
I look forward to the day that I can get back to doing all the things I enjoy without having to be hooked up to a machine. I also would be overjoyed to give my son back his life. My son is my caregiver and assists with canulation for dialysis. This disease does not only affect me, but my family as well. It would be a blessing to be able to travel more, spend time with family and enjoy life without the constant concerns for my health. After my transplant, I would like to travel more and start a private practice, I have my degree in social work, and I would like to help other dialysis and transplant patients, and caregivers.
It can often take years to find a deceased donor match and it is more difficult to find a match for me due to my high antibodies. I am hoping to find a living donor in order to improve my quality of life, as well as give back to others. A living donor transplant would mean so much to me because you will be giving me a second chance at living. To be able to receive such a gift, no words could possibly describe the amount of gratitude and thankfulness. I would be grateful if you could help me find a match by getting tested or sharing this information with your own network of friends, family and community.
