Hi, my name is Shaquetta Wilson and I have end stage renal disease (kidney failure stage 5). I am married with 3 beautiful children who are my heart outside of my body. I have a vast family and even more friends who have become family. I love to read, watch movies and just hang out with my family. I'm writing today because I need help. My world was changed and now I am living a whole new life that I never imagined.
I was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease unexpectedly in August of 2023. Unfortunately by the time I was diagnosed I was already at end stage. I went from being an active vibrant healthy person to not even being able to walk on my own at times. I became fragile weak requiring assistance of people and a walker. The simplest of tasks like washing a bowl became triumphs for me. The doctors knew what I had but literally could not and have not identified why I had it. They gave me the best case scenarios which were actually the worst. My health declined rapidly, and I was placed on dialysis. My son now calls it my life support. It is what is keeping me alive now. Although I am doing home dialysis my life has changed dramatically. I am on a machine every night for 9 hours. This means all my plans have to be shaped around my machine schedule. I have active children and sometimes I have to decide who can get mommy's time.
I have to make sure I have all my time on the machine in order to function daily. On top of this I still work at my job in healthcare that I've been at for 20 years. I work full time because I need the insurance and still want to contribute to our house as we just purchased our first right before all this happened. I feel bad for my children as we have not been able to travel far or take a vacation. Each day is different for me. It's tough and we never know how I will feel BUT with the love, support from family& friends and prayer GOD is getting us through.
I am writing to all of you because I am in need, I need someone to donate a kidney to me.! I will always have chronic kidney disease but my best chance to having a more normal life is to find a living donor. Half of the patients on dialysis who make it to the kidney donor list die within the first year. A living donor is my best option. A living kidney donor gives me an opportunity to spend more time with my friends and family If interested please call Yale New Haven Transplantation Center at 1-866-925-3897 and give them my name to start the process. A great thing is you don't have to live in the same state that I am in to help me. It would be a blessing to me and my family if you would consider donating. If it's not something for you I understand but please consider sharing this post to get the word out for me in case someone else may want too. That would mean the world not to just me but my family and friends as a whole.
In closing I would appreciate if you could in your effort to help pass this story along. There is someone out there who can/may want to help. I have never been good at needing people. This is one problem that I can't solve by myself, but I will always keep a smile on my face. I will always remember to live, laugh and love. Until then I will continue to live by my new quote. "Everything will be okay in the end but if it's not OK., then it's not the end." Thank you for reading my story.
