LIVING Kidney DONOR NEEDED

Support Kyle Scriven: A Living Kidney Donor Could Change His Life Forever

My name is Kyle Scriven, and I am deeply passionate about the arts, especially film, television, and music. I have a love for movies from all eras, and music is a constant companion in my life. I also have a strong passion for sports, particularly as a devoted fan of Arsenal FC. Though I was born and raised in New Jersey, which I still consider home, I've spent the past 24 years in the DC/MD/VA area. Being first-generation American, with my parents from the Bahamas, has shaped who I am today. I take great pride in my roles as a son, brother, husband, and uncle, and each of these roles brings me immense joy.

I was first diagnosed with kidney disease in 2015. At the time, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect, but I’ve been living with it since then, and in recent years, particularly since 2019, I’ve intensified my efforts to manage my health.

I’ve known about my kidney damage for about nine years. When I first received the diagnosis, I was in shock and struggled to fully grasp the severity of what I was facing. Although I was given instructions on how to manage it, I didn’t fully understand the importance of those steps at the time. As my kidneys have deteriorated, the impact on my life has become more pronounced.

One of the most challenging aspects is dealing with sudden bouts of sluggishness that seem to come out of nowhere. It has also forced me to reconsider my relationship with food. I’ve always loved the experience of eating—not just as a necessity but as something to be savored. Unfortunately, many of the foods I once enjoyed are now off-limits, either completely or in limited amounts.

In addition to these challenges, I’ve had to manage painful gout flare-ups in my lower joints. Because of my kidney disease, I can’t use the typical treatments for gout, which has made these flare-ups even more difficult to endure. The combination of these factors has required significant adjustments in my daily life, but I continue to navigate these challenges as best as I can.

A transplant would be a life-changing event for me. Right now, I’m facing the very real prospect of starting dialysis. While it’s true that advances in dialysis have allowed people with kidney disease to live longer lives, the process is still incredibly limiting. As someone relatively young, the thought of dialysis drastically altering my daily life is daunting.

Dialysis would mean spending 3-4 days a week, with each session lasting 3-5 hours, connected to a machine. This would limit every aspect of my life, from my work and career progression to my personal aspirations, like becoming a parent. It would also make one of my great passions—international travel—nearly impossible.

A transplant would change all of that. It would give me back the freedom to live my life without those severe limitations, allowing me to work towards my goals, enjoy time with my family, and experience the world without the constant burden of dialysis. In short, a transplant would give me the chance to reclaim the life I want to live.

My name is Kyle Scriven, and I’m reaching out with an important and deeply personal request. I am in urgent need of a living kidney donor to help me regain my health and future.

Since my diagnosis with kidney disease in 2015, my life has changed in ways I never anticipated. Despite my best efforts, my kidneys have continued to decline, and I am now facing the reality of dialysis—a treatment that, while life-saving, will severely limit my ability to live fully, work, travel, and pursue my dream of becoming a parent.

A kidney transplant would be nothing short of life-changing. It would give me the chance to lead a healthier, more fulfilling life, free from the constraints that dialysis imposes. If you are open to the idea of becoming a living donor, please know that the process is confidential, and you will receive all the support you need throughout.

I humbly ask for your help—whether it’s considering becoming a donor yourself or simply sharing my story. The more people who see this, the better my chances of finding a match. Your kindness could give me the opportunity to continue enjoying the arts, cheering on my favorite sports teams, and creating lasting memories with my family. Thank you for your support—it truly means the world to me.
